Three things to know

  • Adults and tadpoles have different diets.
  • It lives around fast-flowing rivers.
  • Its feet are extensively webbed.

Habitat and range

Its restricted range lies in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. Clean, fast-flowing rainforest rivers and waterfalls provide adult habitat and the specialised feeding sites used by tadpoles.

Appearance and adaptations

A broad, flattened body is greenish brown above and lighter below. Granular skin, long hind legs and extensively webbed feet distinguish this robust river frog.

Diet and behaviour

Adults hunt mainly at night for insects, crustaceans, molluscs and other animals, including smaller amphibians. Young frogs spend much time underwater; older individuals may rest on exposed rocks.
